Girl, 6, Stable After Being Attacked By 2 Dogs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A little girl is recovering after being attacked by a neighbor's Rottweiller in Brookline.

According to police, the attack happened in the 800-block of Norwich Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"I seen the lady from across the street carrying the little girl, and I seen blood coming out of her head, and I thought this is really bad," said Joe Tardio, a neighbor. "My little girl who is 9-years-old said, 'Daddy, I believe somebody got attacked by a dog.'"

According to the girl's mother, 6-year-old Sabrina Snyder was visiting her neighbor next door when the dog began to attack. Her older sister ran out the back door. But Sabrina couldn't get away from the dog until another neighbor, hearing the screams, ran over with a pipe.

"He heard the scream, ran over," said Tardio. "The dog had the little girl's head in its mouth and he was biting down, and as he was biting down, the kid ran over and hit him with a metal pipe, and the dog never let go, and then he proceeded to hit him again with the metal pipe."

Sabrina has multiple lacerations to her head and ears and needed stitches. She has a bite mark on her left arm that goes through to the muscle.

She was taken to Children's Hospital and has since been released.

Her mom says she keeps asking, "Why does this have to happen to me?"

Animal Control removed the two dogs involved.

But some neighbors think Sabrina's nightmare could have been avoided.

"We made several phone calls in the last few months to have someone come and look at the situation to have them either be taken away or better for them. They had no food. They had no shelter," said Tardio.
