PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — There’s a new traffic alert if you’re planning on traveling around town this weekend.

PennDOT has announced plans to close the outbound side of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

The closure is scheduled to start on Friday at 10 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. Monday.

Crews will be paving, cleaning, replacing tile, installing water lines and doing other construction work.

The last time PennDOT closed part of the tunnel, it caused major delays.

But PennDOT officials say signs will be posted to guide drivers around the closure.

Meanwhile, the Liberty Tunnel outbound will be closed starting tonight for more repairs.

The tunnel will then be closed again Thursday night, and Friday night as well. The closure will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on those nights.

Crews will be doing line painting and sign installation.

But there is good news concerning the inbound side of the Liberty Tubes, it should reopen on Friday.

Outbound Posted Detour:
