Man, Woman Accused Of Robbing Fayette Co. Bank Arrested

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A man and woman accused of robbing a Fayette County bank are now in police custody after a day-long manhunt.

The couple is accused of holding up the PNC Bank on Morgantown Road in South Union Township around 9:15 a.m.

According to police, the couple turned themselves. They were arrested at the Caroline Motel in Georges Township.

"They actually called 911 and turned themselves in, didn't give us any problem taking them into custody," said Lt. Tom Kolencik, of Uniontown Police. "Right now, we're in the process of typing up a search warrant for the hotel room they were staying in to help with our investigation. They'll be interviewed and charged accordingly."

Investigators have not yet released their names, but police say they are cooperating in the investigation.

Earlier in the day, police say when they went into the bank the woman demanded money.

"The female went up to the teller, handed her a bag, and said, 'Fill it.' The female suspect turned to [a] patron and demanded her wallet," said. Lt. Kolencik.

No one was hurt in the incident, but one person inside the bank was very shaken up.

In the hours after the robbery, state police troopers assisted Uniontown officers, constables and others as they searched a wooded area where they believed the two suspects ran to.

"We searched a heavily wooded area behind the bank, thinking they ran in that direction," Lt. Kolencik said.

Police also released surveillance photos of the suspects, too.

"They felt the pressure," Lt. Kolencik said. "They knew they were going to get… at some point someone was going to know who they were."

Uniontown Police are handling the investigation.
