Walk To Defeat ALS To Be Held Sept. 6

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been a huge success both locally and nationally.

However, there's another event coming up to continue the fundraising effort.

The annual Walk to Defeat ALS will be held on Sept. 6 at Point State Park.

You can sign up individually or as a team to participate in the walk. You can also donate to a team.

One team that will be participating in this year's event is Tony's Twisted Sisters, who walk in honor of Anthony Carl Bettinelli, originally of Donora.

According to the family, he was an avid golfer with a vivacious personality. He realized something was wrong when his playing partners started out driving him. He was diagnosed less than a year into retirement.

For the past 13 years, the family has raised money for ALS research through the annual walk and a memorial golf tournament. The goal each year is to raise at least $2,000.

To donate or join Tony's Twisted Sisters, visit their team page here.
