Pittsburgh Vs. St. Louis As Part Of 'Give Kids A Winning Chance' Campaign

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh is in the middle of a battle with another city, where the real winners will be local children.

The "Give Kids a Winning Chance" event runs the entire month of September at Monroeville Mall.

The goal of the event is to collect donations of new or gently used sports equipment, which will benefit local Boys & Girls Clubs.

This is the City of Champions for a reason and local organizers wanted a bigger challenge than Cleveland.

Instead, the rival in this competition is the Chesterfield Mall in St. Louis.

Locally, donations are being accepted at the Monroeville Mall at a special collection bin in the food court.

If you can't make it out to the mall, you can mail your equipment donation to: Monroeville Mall, Mall Office Complex, Suite 200, Monroeville, PA 15146.

So, why challenge St. Louis and their lone Lombardi Trophy? Simple. When was the last time Cleveland won anything?

St. Louis may actually give us a challenge! (Sorry, Cleveland.)

According to a press release, "The winning team will receive 'a year of bragging rights' and hearty congratulations. The losing mall's management team will have to wear a sports jersey of the other mall's choice for a full week. The Chesterfield Mall's manager is going to look amazing in his/her Steelers and/or Penguins hat and jersey N'at!"

A celebratory "Day of Play" at the Monroeville Mall is already scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The free event is open to families with children of all ages and will feature a variety of fun activities.
