Mayor Peduto Talks New Police Chief, Resolving Unrest Among Force
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA)- Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald joined Marty Griffin in studio on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA’s monthly “Ask the Leaders.”
“Ask the Leaders” gives listeners an opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about the community to Pittsburgh’s top officials.
Marty led off with asking Mayor Peduto about the hiring of the new police chief, Cameron McLay.
“On paper, he was one of the best candidates, and after the interview, it was obvious that this was the guy Pittsburgh needed,” Peduto said.
The mayor went on to say McLay understands the job and will be hands-on.
One listener called and voiced his concerns about the lack of police presence in neighborhoods with high crime.
Mayor Peduto said he is adding about 900 more policeman. The listener also asked about county land near the airport.
Fitzgerald explained the area is one of the fastest growing in the county.
The hour ended on a light note, Marty asked Peduto what he liked and disliked most about his job as mayor so far.
“It sounds cliche, but I can make somebody smile,” Peduto said.
“The Inside Story” with Marty Griffin can be heard Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon.
