Steelers Players Weigh In On Current State Of NFL

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Steelers dealt with news of Ray Rice head-on, having to play in Baltimore last Thursday night.

Since that time, Minnesota benched star running back Adrian Peterson for an indictment for "reckless or negligent injury to a child. The child was his 4-year-old son, who he hit with a switch.

Carolina's Greg Hardy was also benched for domestic abuse charges.

"Negative news sells, it does," said 13-year-pro Brett Keisel. "It's the world we live in. That's what's on the face of everything, it doesn't matter the positive things. These type of things are what people buy papers for."

Keisel says they haven't talked a lot about it in the Steelers' locker room.

"There hasn't been a lot of discussion of what is going on outside this building. We have enough issues going on in here that we need to focus on," he said.

"I don't pay attention to any of it, whether it's good or bad," Troy Polamalu said following Monday's practice. "I'm not concerned about the image of the league. I am concerned with the image of this team and this organization. That's what Roger Goodell and the league owners' concern is."

"I can't control any of that," said second-year linebacker Jarvis Jones. "If it's not in this locker room or part of this organization, I can't control it."

Veteran receiver Lance Moore was part of a Saints team in which players and the head coach were suspended for covering up bounties on opposing players.

Moore said he's really not paid attention to what is happening with other teams.

"I'm not too concerned about that," Moore said. "Once I start getting concerned about that, I lose focus on what we're doing in this locker room and in this building. I'm worried about us preparing for the next game and doing what we can to get back on a winning track. It's not my job to repair or worry about what's going on with the NFL."

"There is a lot of negativity out right now in the league, but I hang my hat on every day knowing there are a lot of good guys in this game too," Keisel said. "There are a lot of guys who do the right thing and act the right way, that are living good, charitable lives. There are a lot of guys in this locker room and locker rooms all throughout the league that try and do the right thing. That's all I try and think about is making a positive impact when I can."
