Port Authority Bus Goes Over Hillside, Driver Injured

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) –A Port Authority bus has gone over a hillside on the North Side.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened in the 3900-block of Evergreen Avenue around 2 p.m.

The driver was injured in the crash.

"I seen a lady coming out of the front end of the bus," said witness Leo Wysocki, "She was dragging herself to the side of the bus. That's when I got out of the car and got a blanket out of the trunk, put it on her and she had like a gauge on her neck here and her lip was bleeding, but she could talk."

There were no passengers on board at the time.

Officials haven't said what caused the crash yet, but a witness says the bus my have had contact with another vehicle before tumbling over the hillside.

"I seen two bus collide," said the witness, who did not want to be identified. "It looked like the one was cutting over and she didn't see the other bus coming up, looked like she clipped the front end of the one bus and she swerved and went over the hill."

It was traveling toward town at the time it happened. The Port Authority is investigating and trying to figure out how one of its buses drove off the road and tumbled down the hill.

The driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and is in bad shape. She has been upgraded from critical to stable condition.
