VA Patient Tests Positive For Legionella

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A VA Hospital patient tested positive for Legionella.

Officials say the patient had pneumonia and visited the University Drive emergency room Friday.

Following protocol, physicians tested the patient for Legionella and found it positive. Officials say the patient had been treated at that facility within the past two weeks.

The water at the VA hospitals are tested and officials say the Legionella tests have come back negative, but they will continue to run more tests.

At least 22 people were sickened -- six of whom died -- after a Legionella outbreak at the Pittsburgh VA.

In June, the head of the VA Terry Gerigk Wolf was placed on leave pending "the completion of administrative actions related to the legionella outbreak."
