Pittsburgh Pirates Playoff Rally Held Downtown

MARKET SQUARE (KDKA) – Today is Pittsburgh Pirates Pride Day and hundreds of people attended a rally Downtown as the Bucs prepare to battle the Giants in the Wild Card Game.

The rally began at noon in Market Square and the fans know what's at stake.

"We are so proud of this 2014 Pirate team," said announcer and former layer Steve Blass to the crowd of hundreds. "They are a perfect fit for this city."

A win tomorrow at PNC Park will punch the Pirates' ticket to the NLDS, where a best-of-five series against the Washington Nationals awaits.

A year ago, the Pirates called for a black out at PNC Park and they are asking for it again this time around.

"And we're going to show the San Francisco Giants fans what a blackout is all about," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly.

Parking spots will also be coveted Wednesday.

Lots 1 and 4 on the North Shore will be open to daily parkers, but you must be out by 6 p.m. The other lots won't open until 3 p.m.

Edinson Volquez gets the start for the Pirates. This season, Volquez went 13-7 with a 3.04 ERA and struck out 140 batters. However, over his last 12 starts, he posted a sparkling 1.78 ERA.

As for the Giants, they will send Madison Bumgarner to the mound. Bumgarner went 18-10 this season with a 2.98 ERA and struck out 219 batters.

The first pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. Wednesday.
