Newsradio 1020 KDKA Editorial: Inappropriate Emails

Most working adults know this –

Your work email is NOT for personal use.

And you should never – ever – use it to send inappropriate or sexually explicit jokes –

Pictures –

Or videos.

Companies – and government agencies – have pretty strict policies about this.

So it was a shock to learn that such emails were making the rounds in Harrisburg.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office found them by accident –

While investigating how the office handled the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

The emails date from 2008 to 2012 –

And were sent to – and forwarded by – employees in the A-G's office.

Other state officials – including the DEP Secretary –

And a state Supreme Court Justice –

Were also involved.

Governor Tom Corbett – who was Attorney General when this started –

Says he would have stopped the emails immediately –

But he didn't know about them.

That's the problem.

When the first inappropriate email popped up in someone's "in-box" –

It should have been reported –

Not just deleted –

Or ignored –

And it definitely shouldn't have been shared with other people.

It shows a stunning lack of judgment and common sense.

And begs the question –

How can these state employees and officials possibly make good decisions for Pennsylvania –

If they can't figure out what to do with something as stupid as an inappropriate email?
