Man Arrested In Connection With North Side Burglaries

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Police arrested a man accused of burglarizing several homes on the North Side.

Douglas Meikle, 22, was arrested on Sunday. They thought he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

"He is someone who has been known to police officers," says Pittsburgh Police Bureau's Sonya Toler.

Officers stopped Meikle in Manchester. They say he was carrying cash and jewelry.

According to the Criminal Complaint - Meikle ran into woods, and was seen moving leaves on the ground to conceal something. He was arrested and found to be carrying $1,477

Meanwhile, officers found a paper towel in the woods off Fleming. Inside - multiple chains, necklaces, rings and a watch.

"Some people who have been robbed or burglarized have identified some of the jewelry," says Toler.

One of those items - a gold ring with a blue WPIAL champions logo was recognized from an open robbery case.

"We are currently investigating whether or not he is connected to several other burglaries."

Over the past month - break-ins on Orchlee, and Morrell streets and Cooper avenue have rattled residents, like Jessica Reese.

"Because I know I doubled-check my door when I heard about it."

There is relief that a suspect is in custody.

"That's reassuring - that's reassuring - definitely."

This investigation is far from over - and more charges may be added. At present, Douglas Meikle is in the Allegheny County Jail charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence , and possessing a small amount of marijuana.

In September, Meikle was arrested for allegedly stealing expensive watches from a home in Brighton Heights.
