South Park Mother, Baby Doing Well After Sidewalk Delivery

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It was quite the scene in a South Park neighborhood as a woman delivered her baby on the sidewalk in front of her neighbor's home.

Pedro is just 3-days-old, but his entrance into the world was an adventure, especially for his mom, Ada Quinones.

She woke up Sunday morning with contractions and just a short time later, she knew she wasn't going to make it to the hospital.

So, she went outside and started yelling for her neighbor, Katlyn McKee.

"I ran out here and she was about to have the baby. She was holding onto her stomach and she was all hunched over and so I ran in my house, I grabbed gloves and I grabbed towels and I came out and it happened so fast, then he was born," McKee said.

McKee said instincts kicked in and somehow she knew how to help.

Pedro was 7 pounds, 11 ounces and 20 inches long and was born right on the sidewalk.

"I was wiping him off, she was getting all the fluids out of his mouth and it was done," McKee said.

"He is doing good and I'm doing great," Quinones said.

Mom and baby were both transported by ambulance to Magee Women's Hospital.

Although the delivery did not go as expected, Quinones said she doesn't mind how it all happened.

She said she remained calm and is thankful for her new son and her two daughters, ages 5 and 2.

"It was crazy, but it was cute, I love it," Quinones said.

"She just was doing what she had to do. She didn't say any noises, she didn't scream, it wasn't like real crazy, she just did it," McKee said.

As for McKee, she still can't believe she helped welcome the little guy into the world.

"It has been really crazy, but I think more so exciting and I love the baby. He is so cute," McKee said.
