Pittsburgh Goes For Cookie Dunking Record

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Last week, Pittsburgh set a world record for largest pierogi. This week, the City of Champions is setting another one.

How many gallons of milk does it take to fill 2,000 cups? How many cookies to break a Guinness World Record? More than 2,000 cookie connoisseurs turned out, as Giant Eagle hosted a massive dunk-a-thon in Market Square.

"The world record is for number of cookies simultaneously dunked in one place," explains Giant Eagle spokeswoman Caitlin Monaco.

And 1,796 cookies once were dunked in a town in India. That's the record.

"It's kind of an odd thing to set a record for, but I am all for milk and cookies," says potential cookie dunker Rush Lester.

"One of my teachers let us out from class early just so we coould come participate in this, so hopefully all of us showing up witll help us set the record," student Molly Campbell adds.

"It feels good," adds Jonetta Menefee. "I hope we do it. Because then I'll feel even better."

Each cookie dunker receives a wrist band to guarantee an accurate count.

"Three, two, one!"

Following the countdown, 2,152 cookie dunkers celebrate a new world record.

Pittsburgh is the City of Cookie Dunk Champions.
