Port Authority T Train Crashes Into Vehicle In Dormont

DORMONT (KDKA) -- Three people were injured when a Port Authority light rail car struck a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Dormont.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. near Dell Avenue and Kelton Avenue at Hillsdale Crossing.

Three people were in the car, including a 5-year-old child. They were taken to Saint Clair Hospital with minor injuries.

Ten passengers were on the T; none of them were hurt.

There's no word yet on that caused the accident.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti: and what about the circumstances surround the accident, any idea?

Port Authority Police Officer Brian O'Malley: "I can only comment that's still under investigation as far as the signals and speeds and everything."

The train pushed the car around 80 feet before coming to a stop.

It's not yet known if the car was trying to cross the tracks.

The outbound tracks were blocked for sometime Thursday evening as crews cleared the wreckage. But the inbound side remained open.
