Some Calling For Elizabeth Forward School Board Member To Step Down

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local school board member is under fire from fellow board members and the community after getting into trouble with the law.

On Wednesday night, Francis Posa sat amongst his fellow Elizabeth Forward School District board members. While all appeared to be business as usual, some members believe he shouldn't be on it.

"School directors make decisions for children. I don't think he makes good decisions," said Megan Ferraro, a board member.

Ferraro and other board members have asked Posa to step down from the school board after a January incident that he pleaded guilty to.

"For receiving stolen property," said Posa of the charge. "I took my girlfriend to a pawn shop, and I didn't know the stuff was stolen. She took it from her mother and I didn't know that."

Because it was a misdemeanor charge, Posa gets to stay on the board.

Brenda Hoffman is a retired Elizabeth Forward teacher. She went to Wednesday's meeting hoping her desire to remove Posa would make an impact.

"We trust them. We elected them," she said. "For something like this to occur and still be on the board is unacceptable. Someone who acts that way and says that he did wrong really should not be a role model for our students."

Posa refuses to step down.

"They understand what I'm doing here; I'm here for the taxpayers and they want me here," Posa said. "All I'm focusing on now is doing positive things for the school district."
