Police Look For Knife-Wielding ATM Robber

NEW STANTON (KDKA) – Police are searching for the person who has robbed ATM users at a New Stanton bank on multiple occasions.

Police say a knife-wielding suspect has confronted customers withdrawing cash from a Commonwealth Bank on three occasions this month.

"We've had an individual white male that waits for a patron to pull up and access the machine putting the card in it," said State Police Tpr. Stephen Limani.

In one instance, police say a startled customer dropped their debit card, which the suspect then tried to use.

"He demands that person provide them with money," said Limani, "in a couple instances that person has provided them money."

In each case, the driver is focusing on the ATM and not what's going on around them and in a few cases, the suspect gets away with cash, but not always.

"She doesn't pull close enough to the ATM to have access, so she opens her car door," says Limani. "She decide not to become a victim any longer and remove herself form the situation and in her case, it worked out really well for her."

The driver floored it, leaving her ATM car behind. The robber couldn't' resist trying to guess the pin and in turn helped remove some guess work for investigators regarding just who he may be.

"He does a pretty good job of keeping himself covered up," said Limani. "Fortunately a mistake is made on his behalf."

The one face shot was pretty good, so if you recognize the suspect, contact state police.

In the interim, police say drive as close as you can to the ATM and be aware of what's going on around you.
