Teen Accused In Stabbing Rampage Meets With New Psychiatrist
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The teenager accused in the stabbing rampage at Franklin Regional High School met with a new psychiatrist Friday.
Transported by the Westmorland County Sheriff's Office Friday, Alex Hribal was taken to and from the Chartiers Center Residential Treatment Center on Hickory Grade Road in Bridgeville.
Hribal is charged with 21 counts of criminal attempted homicide after stabbing his classmates and a security guard inside the hallways of Franklin Regional High School back on April 9.
His attorney, Pat Thomassey, wanted to move Hribal to a psychiatric treatment facility while he awaits trial, but when no facilities in Pennsylvania would accept him, the judge appointed a psychologist and psychiatrist to treat him at the detention center.
Friday was Hribal's first meeting with Dr. Alan Axelson, a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist.
The meeting lasted an hour and 15 minutes and was characterized in a court order as an initial assessment with Hribal and his parents.
Afterwards, sheriff's deputies returned Hribal to the Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Center.
Thomassey wasn't present at the meeting Friday.
Earlier this month, a judge granted a motion to give the defense more time to review police and medical reports and has moved the trial date from December to March.
