Extravagant Love Makeover Event Benefits Dozens Of Homeless & Abused Women

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It was a magical experience for dozens of homeless women in our area.

They were treated to makeovers, complete with new hairstyles and new outfits.

But, the event wasn't just about getting a new look.

The day started off with hair and makeup.

"We are just expressing love to the women here at Bethlehem Haven. We are doing manicures, pedicures, giving them clothes," organizer Kelly Jones said.

Women, homeless and some abused, were given star treatment.

Volunteers traveled to local shelters as part of the Third Annual Extravagant Love Makeover.

"We hope lives will change. We hope that just the ladies realize how special that they really are and that there are people here in the city who really do care about them," Jones said.

After the pampering, the women were whisked off by bus to a fancy dinner and fashion show at the Pittsburgh Project on the North Side.

Some of the ladies modeled their new outfits from Dress for Success. For others, the event was a chance to connect and be inspired.

"It's building up my self-esteem, making me feel better about myself and making me feel positive that I can go up from here, only up from here," Maria Hillman said.

"No detail was too much. That they go away from this event knowing how much God loves them and that those broken, dashed dreams that they've left alongside the road, some of them, that there's hope and with God that everything is possible," Extravagant Love Makeover Director Denise Graves said.

There is zero budget for Extravagant Love Makeover because volunteers and sponsors make the entire day possible.

For those helping out, the event is just as exciting and rewarding.

"It's a win-win. Everybody here is touched and changed by this event," Graves said.
