CB William Gay Named Steelers' Walter Payton Man Of The Year

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback William Gay had a rough upbringing, but he has never let that slow him down.

Now he's been able to turn his past into a positive for others and was rewarded by being named the Steelers' 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award recognizes a player's off-the-field community service, as well as their playing excellence.  The winner will be announced during Super Bowl XLIX.

Gay's charitable works this year include teaming up with the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh to introduce a new national danger assessment app called RUSafe.

Gay is also one of 23 current and former NFL players to be featured in the recent "No More" PSA to help end domestic violence.

You can learn more about Gay's past that has helped mold him into the man he is today here, where he spoke out about the Ray Rice domestic violence case.
