Get Marty: Woman Kicked Off Megabus & Left On Side Of The Road Gets Refund

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Butler County woman says she was kicked off of Megabus and left on the side of the road.

When the company would not respond to her complaints, Dee Markus called KDKA-TV'S Get Marty.

"I just can't believe that it happened. I was just put on the side of the road in the dark, "says Markus.

The retired Navy veteran says she was on a trip to New York on a Megabus when a lot of noise woke her up.

"It was the middle of the night. I thought the driver was speeding. I asked him to slow down," says Markus.

Two Megabus employees asked Markus to be quiet. In fact, according the Megabus reports, she was "drunk" and "disruptive."

Megabus told her they could throw her off of the bus and they did.

"They put me on the side of the road an hour from New York. They had the state police there waiting to arrest me," says Markus.

The police did not arrest her. An officer's report indicated that she was not drinking.

Markus had to go to a rest area, catch a Greyhound Bus and a cab to get to her final destination.

She did not have her luggage for nine days.

Once KDKA contacted Megabus, the company took immediate action.

"Customer service is our number one priority," says Sean Hughes with Megabus.

Within a few days, Megabus paid Markus nearly $700 for lost expenses.

"Every passenger is important to us. When there's an issue, we certainly want to address it as quickly as possible," says Hughes.

Meanwhile, Markus is happy and hopeful. She wants Megabus to learn from this experience.
