PG's Mike White Previews WPIAL Championships

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)-Post-Gazette High School Beat Writer Mike White joined The Cook and Poni Show this morning to preview the WPIAL Championships today at Heinz Field.

It all starts with the class A game between Avonworth and Clairton.

"Clairton is the favorite. They just have so many playmakers," White said.

He thinks it would take a huge effort for Avonworth to pull off the upset.

Avonworth/ Clairton kicks off the day at 11am.

The Quad A title is at 2 pm which features Pine-Richland vs. Central Catholic.

This is a game that Pine-Richland won earlier in the season and White thinks they can do it again.

"Pine-Richland is a fun team to watch," White said.

The Quad A game kicks off at 2 pm.

The Double A game is a rematch of last years title between two undefeated teams as South Fayette plays Aliquippa.

White says this is the first time we have seen a repeat title game against two teams that have been undefeated both years.

South Fayette and Aliquippa kick off at 5 pm.

The Triple A game is the night cap kicking off at 8 pm between West Allegheny and Central Valley.

"Central Valley has the best player in the WPIAL bar none in Justin Whitehead," White said.

Whitehead is committed to Pitt.
