Accident Results In 2 Cars Crashing Into Westmoreland Co. Business

NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) – Crews are working to clean up an accident that resulted in two cars crashing through the wall of an auto body shop in Westmoreland County Monday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the accident happened at Fix's Body Shop on Route 30 in North Huntingdon around 10:30 a.m.

A female driver said another motorist cut her off, which caused her to go across the highway and crash into the business.

Both her vehicle and a parked car she hit, ended up going through the wall of the auto body shop.

The vehicle that cut her off crashed at a nearby gas station.

Fix employees Kevin Kissel and Shawn Ellis admit they are very lucky. They were sitting a few feet form the wall taking a coffee break, when the car crashed into the building.

"From what we seen, there was a car that was hit over here in the middle of the road," said Ellis. "I guess it careened off that car and into the building and there was a car here that got hit and crashed into the wall."

They looked outside and realized within seconds that an out-of-control SUV was heading straight towards them.

A car parked in front of the building took the brunt of the crash. Ellis and Kissel weren't hurt, but four passengers in the SUV, including two small children and the driver of the red KIA, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police may file charges against the driver of the red KIA for causing the crash.

"They were fortunate, very fortunate," said Henry Fix, founder of the business.

Fix says PennDOT plans to put a third lane on Rt. 30 to better enable vehicles to turn off the highway. He thinks that will prevent accidents.

But Fix says he's just glad no one was hurt seriously, and as far as the hole in the building, he says he'll have that repaired.
