Pittsburgh Police Deliver Thanksgiving Meals To Residents

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police officers and countless volunteers went door-to-door greeting the less-fortunate with a warm meal this Thanksgiving.

KDKA-TV's Amy Wadas had the opportunity to follow a group through Carrick.

"We found that there truly is a lot of need in our communities and we're happy to serve the people of Pittsburgh. It's truly an honor," Pittsburgh Police Officer Christine Luffey said.

This program is called "Get Stuffed With Love" and Officer Luffey is one of the people who made this possible.

However, this year is different as the program expanded citywide. In previous years, meals were delivered to just some city neighborhoods.

Officer Luffey said all of the meals are being made with a lot of love. They're delivering 2,194 citywide this Thanksgiving.

"This is something to give thanks for and the opportunity to help other people who aren't going to have a Thanksgiving dinner, so this is something we can do for them," volunteer Ray Kells said.

"It's nice to see a look on their face when they get something they don't expect or really need," volunteer Aaron Miller said.

That's exactly what we saw when KDKA followed the delivery crews through Carrick.

"This is great because I wouldn't have a turkey dinner. Thank you guys," Lily Colon said.

"It's really going to help us out. We're going through a tough time. Thank you very much. We appreciate it," Scott Masek said.

"My message to everyone is to be thankful for everything you have and count your blessings," Officer Luffey said.
