Steelers Detail Plan To Add Seats To Heinz Field
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers have told the city planning commission they'll add about 2,400 seats to Heinz Field, not 3,000 as originally planned.
According to Tuesday's presentation, the team will add 1,553 general admission seat and 837 premium seats in the stadium's south end zone.
The premium seats include those in a new club level and five luxury suites to be built as part of the project.
The stadium now seats slightly more than 65,000 fans and the new seats will be added in time for next season.
The Steelers will pay the city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority about $2.1 million to pay off a bond that will cover the cost of adding 3,000 seats, a new scoreboard and other improvements. The team plans a $1 ticket surcharge to pay for the additions.
