Cal U Turns To Kansas Firm To Restore Football Program's Reputation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – California University and its football program have seen better days.
It got so bad this year, the team had to forfeit a game after six players were arrested and jailed in October.
They're accused of beating a guy so bad, police thought it was going to be a homicide investigation.
But Lewis Campbell survived his skull fracture and brain hemorrhage. The university is also trying to survive.
They're paying a Kansas consulting firm up to $60,000 to find ways to clean up its football program.
The firm, The Compliance Group, has ties to the NCAA. It will review the football program from top to bottom and make recommendations for a new game plan.
Since 2012, 13 other current and former players were charged with crimes ranging from marijuana possession to aggravated assault. It's a problem that Cal U hopes The Compliance Group can tackle by end of next June.
