Man Luring 14-Year-Old Caught By Girl's Older Sister On Snapchat

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man is in jail after using an app to allegedly convince a young girl to sneak out of her house to have sex.

Timothy Hughes is charged with trying to lure a child into his vehicle, corruption of minors and using internet communications to carry out his plans.

According to the criminal complaint, 20-year-old Hughes, met the 14-year-old girl through a family friend. He saw her again at a bonfire party over the summer where he allegedly cornered her, pushed her against his vehicle to lay her down on his hood. The girl's older sister intervened.

During the West Alexander Fair, held in September, Hughes, is accused of making inappropriate advances toward the teenager.

The complaint further recounts how Hughes befriended the 14-year-old on Facebook, then later called her, offering to pick her up at home and, "Show you what sex is like."

The girl told her big sister. The older sister then used the app Snapchat to arrange a rendezvous with Hughes on Nov. 11. But when she and her boyfriend arrived to confront Hughes he took off. The child's mother contacted police.

Neighbors describe Hughes as a good kid, who's a coal miner and has a girlfriend.

Timothy Hughes was arrested on Wednesday. He's currently in the Washington County Jail on a $200,000 straight bond.
