State Police Investigating Violent School Bus Assault In Fayette County

CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA)- State police say a Fayette County elementary school student faces assault charges in juvenile court for allegedly attacking two other girls on a school bus, one of whom suffered a concussion and a broken nose.

Police say one girl attacked two other girls on the bus ride home from school on Wednesday.

All three girls attend Dunbar Township Elementary School, a K-6 school in the Connellsville Area School District.

District Security Director Michael Parlak says criminal charges will be filed with the Fayette County juvenile probation office once his investigation is completed.

He says he's waiting for medical records and other information.

Parlak also says that tensions had been mounting on Wednesday before the altercation.

"I think some of the original animosity was known prior to leaving school," Parlak said. "It was 11-year-old girls that their ire got up a little bit and it turned to a physical altercation."

He says they were 11- and 12-year-old girls.

Brenda Waters reports:

The fight began between two of the girls. When the friend of the student who was being hit saw the incident, she jumped into help.

Parlak says she was the most seriously injured. State Police say that she suffered a broken nose and a concussion.

"I didn't know that people could be this mean and hateful in elementary school," said Jessica Hall.

Hall is the mother of one of the girls. She says the girl who was the aggressor has picked on other students in the past.

"The school is supposed to feel safe, but right now, none of our kids feel safe," she said.

Parlak says the girls could face suspensions under the school's disciplinary policy.
