Police Seek Suspect Who Stole $100, Then Turned In Purse It Came From

SCOTTDALE (KDKA) -- Police are looking for a suspect who they say stole a woman's purse out of a shopping cart at a Westmoreland County Walmart, took money out of it, and then returned it to the customer service desk.

Bonnie Sue Stillwagon had just finished up shopping at Walmart in Scottsdale when she dutifully returned the shopping cart.

"I put the buggy over and put it where the carts go, and I turned around and I said, 'Oh, I forgot my purse.' When I turned around, my purse was already gone," said Stillwagon.

Luckily, a fellow shopper brought the handbag into the store.

Surveillance video shows her walking in with it.

Stillwagon: "When we went right into the store, customer service had the purse."

KDKA's Ross Guidotti: "But what was missing from the purse?"

Stillwagon: "$100."

Stillwagon says she had just put $100 cash in the bag, but it was gone.

Investigators said a closer look at the surveillance video shows the woman who took the purse to customer service appears her to have her hands inside while walking into the store.

"I was really speechless, the person who took the money would take the purse to customer service," said Stillwagon.

A white SUV also seen in the surveillance video is the believed to be the getaway vehicle.

"I work hard for my money. If she needed the $100, I would of helped her, but for her to take my money, that's not her's, that wasn't right," said Stillwagon.

If you recognize the woman, state police want to hear from you.

Meanwhile, Stillwagon says she's learned her lesson and will pay more attention to just where she puts her purse.
