Community Effort Helps Christmas Comes Early For Monaca Family

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Christmas came a little early for a well deserving family in Beaver County.

A crew from Froggy 104.3 teamed up with local businesses and a lot of generous donors to make it happen.

Around 6:30 a.m. a crowd met and traveled to the home of a special family in Monaca.

The home has had more than its fair share of heartache.

Between illness and job changes, times have been tough for the Dinello family.

The biggest blow came in September when Pandora, a wife and mom to three children suffered an aneurism and passed away.

"My heart is breaking because I don't have my daughter, but to know that everybody did this, it's just amazing. I can't believe that we have so many good people in this world, in this town," Christine Peronis said.

The Dinello's story must have touched many.

Last month, the family was nominated twice for a contest held Froggy 104.3.

The station selected the family to receive a Christmas surprise complete with toys, clothes, bicycles and even a Christmas tree.

"Sometimes, times are tough and there's a lot of bad news out there and we really wanted to do something good," "Froggy Morning Show" Co-Host Ali Gator said.

People from all over the community pitched in to raise close to $4,000 to spend on the family.

"My mind is spinning right now and just looking around, under the Christmas tree, seeing all the gifts, it is amazing that people take the time out of their busy schedules this time of year to come and make sure this family has a merry Christmas," Al Dinello said.

"It will never bring my daughter back or their mother back and I know the kids are hurting, but this is sure going to put a big light in their life, to know that so many people care," Peronis said.
