Police Hope Artist Sketch Will Help ID Beaver Co. Remains

BEAVER COUNTY (KDKA) – Police are hoping a sketch will help in identifying the person whose remains were found in Economy Borough earlier this month.

Monday police held a press conference where they revealed a sketch showing what the person is believed to have looked like.

The person appears to have been a woman around 50 years old.

A human head was found Dec. 12 by a student on their way to school, in a wooded area off of Ridge Road Extension.

Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalavich-Rossi said it appeared the head had been embalmed.
And, she's "perplexed" on how they may have gotten there.

She had soft curls, gray-ish hair and a full set of teeth.

"There's somebody out there that had the assurance that their loved one, whether it be a mother, grandmother, an aunt, that they were laid to peace," said Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh.

Since the head was discovered the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, forensic anthropologists and the State Coroner's Association have gotten involved.

But it's still unclear how the head ended up in that wooded area.

"I'm speculating now, but it's obvious to all of us that somebody intervened, at some point, whether just prior to burial transportation or after, and that's the person that we're looking for," said Berosh.

Authorities say that person could face theft and abuse of a corpse charges.
