Freezing Rain Leads To Multiple Accidents

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A freezing rain advisory was in effect for the Pittsburgh area until 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Multiple accidents have been reported, and many roads have been turned into sheets of ice due to the freezing rain.

The National Weather Service says a trace of freezing rain was reported and that the ice should end by this afternoon.

The freezing rain will caused some roads and sidewalks to become slick and hazardous. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to use extreme caution when outdoors as areas that look wet may be iced over.

If you must drive be extremely cautious as you will encounter ice on the roads at times.

Allegheny County says all their salt crews are out running salt routes, with special attention being paid to primary routes.

In Castle Shannon, two cars crashed leaving one wedged under the other on Vermont Avenue.

In Shaler, a salt truck actually went off the road and into a house, causing significant damage.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have cancelled their morning skate due to the icy conditions.

Pittsburgh International Airport says that all planes are undergoing de-icing procedures, and to check with your airline if you have to fly today.
