New Additions To Restaurant Week Hoping For Boost In Business

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Asiago's is one of the new additions to Pittsburgh Restaurant Week, which begins Monday.

North Side resident Brian McCollum started the semi-annual tradition three years ago.

"The winter celebration is focused highly on new dishes for the New Year, encouraging the restaurants to continue to recreate themselves and keep moving the restaurant industry forward," he says. "The summer celebration focuses on fine dining, fresh harvest, natural outdoor seating."

Restaurants taking part offer diversified menus, and some bargain prices.

Asiago manager Benze says he's looking forward to joining them.

"We're down in an area that is really big whenever attractions are down here, the games and everything. For right now, though, it's one of those things where we're not having foot traffic. This kind of marketing is going to be huge for us," he said.

This is also the first time Restaurant Week for Benjamin's on Western Avenue. They're one of 65 restaurants that will be taking part in Restaurant Week.

With a menu centered on very big burgers, the two-year-old restaurant has become a neighborhood destination. Owner Paul Tebbets hopes Restaurant Week adds some newcomers.

Restaurant Week Preview on Pittsburgh Today Live:

"It's great to encourage people to try new things, different restaurants that people might not normally be able to make it to, and at a time of the year when restaurants tend to be a little bit more quiet."

Like the other restaurants, Benjamin's will offer a $20.15 special.

"The price is, of course, based on the year," Brian McCollum says. "It will go up a penny every year. But let's say that that's better than inflation."
