Stuck Tractor-Trailer Removed From 62nd Street Bridge

SHARPSBURG (KDKA)- It took a total of seven hours for crews to resolve an accident where a tractor-trailer became stuck in the median on the 62nd Street Bridge Wednesday morning.

The truck straddled the jersey barrier, which caused the bridge to be shut down.

According to Sharpsburg Police, the accident happened around 2 a.m.

The tractor-trailer driver from Georgia was headed to the Allegheny Cold Storage Facility at 57th and Butler Streets.

The driver told police that someone cut him off and he was forced into the median.

The fuel tank on the truck's cab was damaged and the chief says nearly 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the bridge.

Hazmat had to be called in to put oil dry down so the fuel wouldn't seep over the bridge.

The mess, combined with the difficulty of getting the truck towed, made this a lengthy process for drivers.

Drivers Wednesday who didn't know about the accident were feeling the effects of the closure.

Crews resolved the issue around 9 a.m. by towing the damaged cab away. They brought in another cab to drive the trailer away as well.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
