8 People Forced Out Of Point Breeze Home By 3-Alarm Fire

POINT BREEZE (KDKA)- Two women and a baby were injured in a three alarm fire at their single-family home on McPherson Boulevard in Point Breeze Thursday morning.

David Reese, the brother of some of the fire victims, says nine other people, including several children managed to escape unharmed. Three of the children are foster kids, including the baby that was sent to the hospital.

"I have two sisters in the hospital now and they're both good. Good shape. Little Nate he's in good shape also," David Reese said.

Reese says his sister and Nate were stuck on the porch roof. Officials say she climbed out of a second floor window with the baby to escape the fire.

"she had to jump from the roof. Luckily, she's safe, no broken bones or anything. They just had smoke inhalation," Reese said.

The women and the baby were taken to West Penn Hospital. The women are in critical condition.

"We're very thankful they had smoke detectors that alerted everyone to get out so that probably saved some lives tonight," Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Sonya Toler said.

"My older sister Judy, she has MS, so she had a hard time getting out but luckily she was able to get out. Everything's good with her. I just left the hospital. They say she's breathing 100 percent, so everything's good," Reese said.

Everything went well for firefighters despite the frigid temperatures.

"All of our public service workers are heroes in a sense. They put themselves in harm's way to save others," Toler said.

The fire scorched the house next door. Reese says a space heater in a bedroom could be to blame.

The fire marshal has been on scene all morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
