Fire Engulfs Home In Clairton

CLAIRTON (KDKA) -- An intense fire destroyed a vacant home early this morning in Clairton.

Crews were called to the scene just before 6 a.m. in the 300-block of Ohio Avenue in Clairton's Wilson neighborhood.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Crews from Clairton, Pleasant Hills, Elizabeth and Glassport were all called to the scene.

There were concerns about the road icing over from the water used to fight the fire, but road crews were called in.

"Got the salt, street department down here ready to salt the streets, so we are good to go," said Joe Lazur, the assistant fire chief in Clairton.

Neighbors say the home has been vacant for several years.

Officials said all of the utilities had been shut off.

No injuries were reported.

There's no word yet on what sparked the fire.

"The fire marshal is definitely investigating right now, so they'll look into it and see what happened," said Lazur.
