Woman Arrested In Connection With Chalfant 3-Story Apartment Building Blaze
CHALFANT (KDKA) – A woman has been arrested after firefighters battled an intense fire in Chalfant Monday morning.
Shierra Evans has been charged with arson in the fire.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a three-story apartment building in the 300-block of Lynnwood Avenue around 6 a.m.
The building and the three apartments inside are a total loss. It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control. Low pressure from a hydrant hindered their efforts at one point.
The fire started in a first floor bedroom and spread to a vacant home next door, which caused some minor damage.
"I really don't want to comment on all of that because there's going to be a criminal investigation so I really don't want to comment," one woman said.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, but is expected to be okay.
The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating.
