Man Shot, Injured Inside His Washington County Home

WEST PIKE RUN TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- State Police are looking into a shooting in West Pike Run Township, Washington County.

A 69-year-old man was standing in his kitchen, when he was hit by a bullet in the chest. The gunshot apparently came from outside the house and entered through a window.

The victim was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital for treatment, but there is no word on his condition.

Neighbors identify the man shot as Bob Yarnovich.

"I did see the man, Bob, standing on the porch and so he was alert and mobile at the time,"  Debe McKita, a neighbor, said.

Neighbors say Yarnovich kept to himself and not very sociable. We've since learned that Yarnovich was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and shooting her friend in the hand. Yarnovich pleaded guilty to simple assault and was sentenced 3 to 18 months in the Washington County Jail.

State Police won't say if they think there's a connection to last nights shooting and robbery.

Mean while, neighbors plan to be more vigilant.

"Everyone kind of sticks together out here, keeps an eye on everyone else's property," said McKita. "When you hear vehicle noises, you check."

State Police in Belle Vernon released a brief release Tuesday morning saying the suspect(s) entered the home and ransacked it.

Anyone with information is asked to call PSP Belle Vernon at (724)-929-6262.
