1 Dead, Another Injured In Pleasant Hills Shooting, Standoff

PLEASANT HILLS (KDKA) -- One man is dead and another man, believed to be his father, is injured after a shooting and standoff Wednesday evening in Pleasant Hills.

It all started with a shooting around 6 p.m. at a home on Woodland Drive, nearby a shopping center.

Sources say there was some kind of family dispute and a son who ultimately opened fire. One of the bullets hit his father.

The gunman then barricaded himself inside the home.

Neighbors watched as the ordeal unfolded before police set up a barricade, keeping the media and the public at a safe distance.

"I was standing at the top of the hill, me and my brother. The cops come flying down, they come running down, the one cop ran down the street with a shotgun," said Dino Ruszala, a witness. "They come running up around 10 minutes later with an elderly gentleman on a stretcher, and the next thing you know all this happened, everybody came, the cops came, the SWAT team and all this stuff."

The alleged shooter refused to come out, leading to a three-hour standoff.

A CERT team made entry around 9:15 p.m. and found a man lying on the floor, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sources tell KDKA the victim who was shot earlier in the evening is a man in his 70s, the father of the younger man who opened fire. He reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

He is being treated at a local hospital.

"At least one person was hit with gunfire," said Pleasant Hills Deputy Chief Sean Greene. "They are in stable condition, the extent of their injuries are not known at this time. They were transported to a local hospital by medical personnel."

Allegheny County Police are investigating the incident.
