NFL Kicker Jay Feely: The NFL Is At Fault For 'Deflategate'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - NFL placekicker Jay Feely joined The Cook and Poni Show from radio row in Phoenix.

The guys wanted him to set the record clear on the difference between the kicking balls and the balls in question in 'Deflategate' with the New England Patriots.

He says the rules were changed for kickers 15 years ago in how their footballs are prepared and the league should have adopted the same set of rules for the footballs used by the quarterbacks.

Feely says the league wanted the quarterbacks to feel comfortable, so for the past 15 years they have been told they can do whatever they want with the footballs and that is where the problem lies.

"Really, more than anything, the NFL is at fault for creating an environment where quarterbacks felt they could do anything to the ball," Feely said, "and holding someone accountable for something they could basically do."

Feely said if the rules for the quarterbacks were the same as the kickers, this issue would have never happened.

"If you tell me I can do anything I want to the ball - I can put mud on them, I can use sandpaper on them, I can throw them on the grass - all of these different scenarios that they do, then why would you not expect some quarterbacks to want them over-inflated and some quarterbacks to what them under-inflated," Feely said.
