Man Facing Charges For Repeatedly Exposing Self At School Bus Stop

CHARLEROI (KDKA) – It took three months, but police say they have the suspect who was allegedly exposing himself to children as they walked to their bus stop in Washington County.

And officials say it was the assistant principal at the local school who was instrumental in solving the case.

"We want to make sure our students make it to school safely," Charleroi High School Assistant Principal Adam Brewer said.

Police say the suspect, 36-year-old Jeremy Akers, sat in his car alone near the school bus stop at the corner of Second Street and McKean Avenue waiting for young female students to walk by.

He was initially spotted last October. Police say his moves were sporadic, but when seen, he was in his Geo Prizm with the passenger door open.

"A few of the women said he would have his pants down or off and appeared to be fondling himself," said Charleroi Police Chief Eric Porter. "At some point he tried to get the attention of students walking by, but he never had any direct contact with the students."

Students told school administrators and Brewer went into action. It took a few months, but luck was on his side.

"It just so happened last Monday I was driving past, saw him, followed him. I contacted police; got his license number and make of car and the police took it from there," said Brewer.

Akers was then taken into custody.

"He admitted he had been at the bus stop here and across in north Belle Vernon," said Chief Porter. "He just said he had some problems, that he needed some help."

Turns out Akers is from Connellsville, Fayette County, but works in Charleroi.

He is now in the Washington County Jail on $75,000 bond.

"I'm glad justice was served," said Brewer.
