Does It Really Do That? Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - With the cold weather here, many of us are spending more time indoors, and with holiday decorations down, lots of us are giving a hard look to our décor and thinking about ways to spruce things up. A product called Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk promises to bring old wooden furniture back to life; does it really do that?

KDKA-TV Morning Anchor Jennifer Antkowiak found a woman who has plenty of experience cleaning wooden surfaces.

Jane Arden has cleaned St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills twice a week for the past 19 years.

"Well there's all these pews, the pulpits, the Blessed Mother stand in the chapel, the pulpit in the chapel," she said.

Jane was confident she'd know right away how Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk stacks up to other products she's used. She loves watching infomercials, and she's seen this one,

"I've seen it on TV, yeah, and actually this is good. I've been anxious to see how it works," she said.

The commercial shows old wooden pieces - some with years of dirty build-up, restored to a clean, shiny finish. It says the product is safe for painted wood surfaces too.

Dutch Glow comes ready to use with no water needed. Just add the sprayer top, shake well, and get to work.

That's just what Jane and Jen did, despite one little problem. The sprayer didn't work.

That didn't bother Jane though, or stop her from wanting to see how well the cleaner would work. She started with one of the pews, a heavily varnished surface.

She rubbed some of the Dutch Glow cleaner on the pew, but didn't see the kind of improvement she'd hoped for.

"I just expected to get a lot of dirt, and I wonder if this wouldn't have been the same with anything else I would've used," she said.

Jane tried the product on a very old, stained and varnished table next.

"Look at that! Yes, I like this. That's kinda great for this," she said.

Jane was much more excited with the results. Jane also liked how Dutch Glow worked on a table she brought from home-- an old thrift shop find she's been meaning to re-finish.

She rubbed a little Dutch Glow on the top and said, "It does look brighter. It's not gonna be a miracle, but even to have it this clean before I paint it. Yeah, I like it."

Besides how clean and bright the old furniture looked, Jane liked that there was no odor with the product, and no waxy or sticky build-up.

So, Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk claims to bring furniture back to life.

Does it really do that?

"Yes it does," Jane said.

She also said she'd like it for her own home.

"Oh, definitely on kitchen cabinets. I would definitely use it in my kitchen, and just on furniture," she said.
