Wintry Mix Heading Into The Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Another round of winter weather is heading our way after all the snow that fell earlier in the week.

A potentially dangerous wintry mix is expected Thursday afternoon, followed by some rain and then some snow.

There are no advisories for the immediate area, but a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Cambria , Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Mercer, Somerset and Venango counties.

Preston County in West Virginia and Garrett County in Maryland are also under a Winter Weather Advisory. Check here for the latest weather updates and advisories.

KDKA Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla says the wintry mix will fall for the local area between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

"In terms of the clipper system approaching [Thursday], for the rush hour in the morning, just cloudy skies, no issues as you head to work or school in the morning," Verszyla said. "Could be a brief winter mix at the onset of the precipitation."

After that, it will change over mainly to rain.

"Just a two-hour window there before the atmosphere aloft and at the surface warms well above freezing, so mainly rain, plain rain showers for a decent chunk of the afternoon," said Verszyla.

But we're not getting out of snow completely. Verszyla says we will see some Thursday night.

"Then, sometime after 6 o'clock, early evening as the atmosphere then cools, we'll see some snow showers developing and they'll be scattered overnight into Friday morning," he said. "An inch or so of accumulation before all is said and done."
