Get Marty: Garth Brooks Fan Battling Cancer Gets Concert Surprise

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Angie Kervelis is sick, very sick with stage four cancer.

She's fighting for her life, battling to beat cancer with a smile on her face.

"Well, here I am, all hooked up, taking in my delicious chemo cocktail," said Kervelis.

Today's chemo session, with her children watching, will beat her up so badly by Sunday she won't be able to move. She certainly won't be able to go to a Garth Brooks concert.

"My husband and I, one of our first dates was a Garth Brooks concert," she said. "We were so excited they were coming to Pittsburgh."

They bought tickets to see Garth Brooks this Sunday night.

She didn't know she'd have chemo a few days before, it makes her extremely sick. She bought floor seats for the concert and called Ticketmaster to get a refund – about $150.

"I emailed Ticketmaster, called Ticketmaster, I was getting nowhere," said Kervelis.

"I explained my situation, even offered to have my doctor write a note," she added. "They said sorry, can't do it."

That's when she got Marty.

Marty reached out to Ticketmaster, the company immediately responded, saying, "Thanks for sharing Marty. Sadly, this is a story many of us know all too well. I appreciate this opportunity to help."

Within hours of sending the email, Kervelis said she had been contacted by Ticketmaster.

Turns out they called her directly.

"I got a personal phone call from the senior vice president of communications," said Kervelis. "Really, really kind, apologies all over the place."

Kervelis says they refunded her money and gave her a $100 gift card for the next time she uses Ticketmaster.

But her real battle is her fight against cancer.

"They told me to get my life in order, I had six months to live," she said. "That was five years ago. So we're still going, still going strong."

And it turns out Kervelis did get to see Garth Brooks. She went Thursday night before her chemo. A friend hearing her dilemma gave her tickets.

Tonight, she's thankful and resting.
