Worley Wins Arbitration Case Against Pirates
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In a rare victory for a player against the club, Pirates right-handed pitcher Vance Worley won his arbitration case today, according to a source close to the case.
Worley's request for $2.45 million was accepted in front of the three-person panel. The Pirates had asked that Worley make $2 million in 2015.
He made $527,500 last season.
Worley, 27, was 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA last year in 17 starts. Worley also struck out 79 in 110.2 innings pitched.
Worley also had one of the best starts for the Pirates last year when he threw a complete game shutout on the road against the San Francisco Giants giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out 3.
The last player to beat the Pirates in an arbitration case was Ross Ohlendorf in 2011.
Pirates infielder Pedro Alvarez remains the lone Pirates arbitration case remaining, as he is seeking $5.75 million and the club has countered at $5.25 million.
Over this past weekend, second baseman Neil Walker lost his arbitration case and will make $8 million in 2015, not the $9 million he had requested.
