Snow To Develop Overnight, Another Wave Of Arctic Air To Drop Temperatures

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- After a few days of uneventful weather, winter is making its return – first with a bit of snow and then plummeting temperatures.

KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla says some snow will be moving through the area overnight and into the morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Somerset County from 6 a.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. Friday.

But locally, we're only expected to see a light accumulation.

Verszyla says there will be scattered snow showers mainly in the morning with brisk conditions turning colder through the afternoon.

"Light snow showers will develop likely after midnight as we head into the wee hours of morning and up through [Thursday] morning. Not a lot of accumulation, one to two inches of accumulation before all is said and done," said Verszyla.

"So a minor amount of snow, [but] major cold will arrive in the area throughout the day [Thursday]," he added. "Temperatures will be falling, factor in blustery winds, too, which will knock the wind chill values into the single numbers during the afternoon."

And by the end of the weekend, it will get even colder.

"The overall setup the next several days will be well below average," Verszyla. "It's almost like a one, two punch of arctic air. The first one comes [Thursday], [Thursday] night into Friday, little bit of a break on Saturday, and then the second one arrives Saturday night into Sunday, and that one will be even colder than the initial blow."
