Pittsburgh Car Show Offers Look At Rare And Expensive Vehicles

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – All the chrome has to shine, and the glass must gleam.

"It's even for people who don't have any interest in cars," said John Putzier of the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Association. "We try to make this a family event. It's very inexpensive, lots of entertainment and fun. But it's also primarily for someone who might be in the market for a car. You can see everything available in the market in one place."

Mercedes is just one of the 35 car-makers who is at the David Lawrence Convention Center. Now this is a manufacturer's show, so you are not being pressured to buy a car. Instead, manufacturer's reps will tell you about the car or truck that you are looking at.

"Well, it's a great place for anyone to come when they are considering a new vehicle to get in front of every different manufacturer -- all the different offerings out there -- and really just sit in all the cars. I think that is really important," said Megan Carlini with Ford Motor Company.

There are some cars you won't be able to sit in, like a $1 million Ferrari and a few others are offered as eye candy as well.

"We also are going to have a McLaren P1 which is a brand new car," said Putzier. "It's a British super car. It's worth about $2 million. We have a Ferrari exhibit out of Philadelphia. We will have three Lamborghinis. We don't sell those cars in this market but people just want to see them."

And while those show cars carry a very heft price tag, there are many that do not. Still, Putzier says people are actually spending more on cars in the past two quarters.

"With the price of gas right now, people are actually buying up," said Putzier. "The mentality is they are more likely to spend more on a car right now because they can afford to put more gas in it so that is helping us."

The car show opens Friday and will close Monday evening in downtown.
