Man Gets Sausage For A Year For Winning "Sausage Selfie" Contest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Uncle Charley's Sausage held a "Snap a Selfie with a Sausage" contest at Wholey's Fish Market, in the Strip District Monday morning.

Len Caric bought the Uncle Charley's from founder Charley Armitage.

The plant in Vandergrift continues the tradition, turning out sausage with fresh pork and seasoning. But sausage selfies?

That's a first.

"Part of our unveiling of the new package," Caric said. "So what we're asking people to do today here at Wholey's is to take a selfie with our new packaging. And then post that to our new hashtag that we have, and then we're going to draw today. So someone will win sausage for a year."

The winner gets to choose which kind.

"I think the sweet maple's going to be a great choice," says Paul Connelly of Shadyside. "But I'll probably wind up trying them all."

It takes a certain style to snap the quintessential sausage selfie.

Donnamarie Wesolowski of Plum says, "I'd take the hot sausage. That would keep us through the entire summer tailgates to the Pirate games."

The winner turns out to be native Scotsman, Ian Wood.

"Makes me very happy," he smiles. "I love sausage. I was brought up on sausage."

As for the selfie contest, he says, "I never won anything in my life before."
