Security Guard Shot & Killed Inside Homewood Bar

HOMEWOOD (KDKA)- Pittsburgh Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly bar shooting in Homewood.

It happened just after midnight at the Rendezvous Phase III bar on Hamilton Avenue.

Deion Nesbitt, 24, was hired to work security at the bar. Just before midnight, he asked a patron, 26-year-old Harvey Scott Jr., to leave because he had a gun.

"The security personnel confronted the suspect, Havey Scott, a black male, 26, from the Lincoln-Lemington area, because he had made it into the bar and someone noticed he had a gun," Pittsburgh Police Commander Rashall Brackney said.

KDKA's Bob Allen Reports:

Police say that the suspect was wanded and no weapons were detected. Once confronted, there was a struggle over the weapon.

Nesbitt was shot multiple times and later died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. A woman, also working security, was grazed by a bullet.

"Everybody knew Deion," Celeste Nesbitt, the victim's mother, said. "Deion wasn't a mean person. Deion was the most generous, kind, loving person you would ever want to know."

"The suspect fled the scene and was involved in a car accident in which, he crashed at the corner of North Homewood and Kelly into a hydrant," Brackney said.

Scott was taken into custody with the help of Port Authority Police.

Police said they have witnesses and video of the confrontation and that the bar owners are cooperating.

However, this is not the first incident at the bar.

On March 1, 2014, a shooting inside the same bar, killed 27-year-old Corey Clark and injured several patrons.

KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:

Pittsburgh Police said they will confer with the District Attorney's Office to see if Rendezvous Phase III will be considered a nuisance bar.

"We will consult with the District Attorney as to any action regarding our compliance with our nuisance bar procedure," Brackney said. "We do know that the place [has many cameras], that would be in compliance. They were using wands. They had security personnel as well as using the driver's license readers as the patrons were coming into the bar."

The victim's mother says she wants the bar shut down.

"And the mayor, you better shut it down," said Celeste Nesbitt. "I want that bar shut down cause they killed my child and that's my one and only that they killed down there in that bar. Enough is enough."

Scott has been charged with criminal homicide.

Pittsburgh Police are still investigating to see if others were involved.
