Tourists Flock To See Frozen Niagara Falls

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Arctic cold temperatures are helping to create incredibly beautiful sights including freezing part of Niagara Falls.

Tourists and photographers alike are lining up to capture pictures of the famed falls encased in ice.

Photographer Christine Hess took this incredible photo of the American side of the falls which is mostly frozen.

The way crews light up the falls at night only helps to add to the incredible scene.

"There's something about shooting the falls that leaves me mesmerized. I could walk down there for hours with my camera and never tire of the scenery, I'm in my own little world down there," Hess said.

It's not uncommon for the parts of the falls to freeze over during cold temperatures, last January this photo of the frozen falls went viral.

The falls isn't entirely frozen over, water is still flowing underneath the ice.

The falls hasn't completely frozen over since 1848, and that was only due to an ice jam upriver.
